Winter is Upon Us
from ‘The Demon’s Lair’ by Bara Queenbee
It’s finally time to turn inward without guilt and warm ourselves with blankets of darkness (assisted, of course, with hot chocolate).
Personally, I love these times as the year is ending; the days are at their shortest, and we can stay inside without the fear of missing out as everyone naturally does the same. Maybe you live in an area where there are four seasons and you can turn your own centered cycle around the worlds cycle, or maybe you live in a geographic location where the weather is the same all year round. Even though we love screaming "time is an illusion!" it is hard to ignore that days and dates are not a real thing, while simultaneously being a very real thing.
New Age stole and overkilled the buzzword of "Self Care" by covering it with glitters and neon letters under every snapchat-filtered picture, making even the darkest and hardest phases of our last year as hip as a Glamor Cosmo-girl photo shoot.
"I met with Shadow and believe me there was no fucking snapchat filter or perfect skin" - a quote by witch S. Van Ewijk.
As holiday stress creeps up on us, charging us to operate at an Autobahn-speed and multitude of levels, it IS indeed a festive time and hopefully you will be with wonderful friends and people you love all year around and you get to laugh, celebrate, scream and sing (while maybe shed some tears).
Without giving you another thing to do on your already never ending to-do list, I would want to extend an invitation to sit in silence with yourself.
The Last Ritual Of 2019.
Silence. And maybe darkness.
And maybe a pen and journal. Or maybe a voice recorder.
Depending on schedule and desire, make the setting as elaborate and beautiful as you want.
Let's take a walk through this-year's-memory lane:
what were the beautiful things that you experienced this year?
what made you cry? (good or bad)
what demons (internal or external) have you faced?
what new demons have showed up?
what demons have you slayed?
if you had to pick one thing you purchased with money, which was the most memorable (experience or object)?
what could you have more of?
what could you have less of?
And last but not least:
how often have you thanked your skin and body for carrying you this year (including its pains and troubles)?
Sit with it. Do with it whatever you feel called to.
Draw it. Write it
Burn it.
Sing it into the night sky.
Let your mind and acts be as free as a child who doesn't listen to momma.
P.S. I realize our linear and goal oriented mind likes to do things with a specific purpose. However I would like to ask you to experiment with this as purpose-less as possible.
I promise it'll come back full circle in the near future. (jeez, got tricked into goal oriented anyway!)
New Year New You.
And Every New Day New You.
Happy Holidays my Heathens and Witches.
May the darkness hold you, May the silence hear you and May you receive all the pleasure you deserve.
