Slow the Fuck Down

from ‘The Cackle of Knowing’ by Sooz Kir

Welcome, all. I should be doing any of the 37 different tasks you generally do in American culture on/around mid-ish December. Nature and culture clash--this is part of why we feel like shit right now. I can remember who I was with and where I was, when I first learned this wisdom.

Why do we speed up if nature is clearly saying slow the fuck down right now?

What's wrong with sitting in the dark while we germinate stuff--it doesn't always have to be Beltane.

I learned this 5 years ago and it monumentally shifted my reality and awareness. Now, I get to share this earth based wisdom with lots of other uninformed women and witness their response. A light goes on, they sit back, take a deep Buddha belly breath in their J. Crew work pants and their shoulders drop just about 11.7 inches. They begin to slowly unravel from the spiral of expectations to locate, coordinate, and begin a financial slavery relationship with Citibank for disposable, glitzy, fracking plastic for 19 different people--some close (some they hate). They make other plans. They finally leave that asshole. They get creative. They stop crying. They get color back in their cheeks. They get the fuck UP!

I love this time of year. I love sitting in the dark. I love hibernating. I love giving the middle finger to these embedded patterns that shape our larger culture, and constantly creep in to steal creativity, light, connectivity to the earth and freedom. How can you do that today?
