Spell for Protection

Intention: To protect someone, something, and/or someplace

Materials: Writing utensil, paper, glass jar or bottle, broken glass (be safe!), bent pins, open safety pins, garlic, thorns

Process:

  1. Discern a laser-focused intention for what you want to protect. Be precise. Do not cast a spell for general protection.

  2. Once you know what you want to protect, link it to an embodied feeling. Envision all you wish to protect surrounded by an egg of light, the egg is surrounded by a cube, and, in the space between the cube and the egg is the “filler shield” of your choosing. It might be ice, thorny vines, fire, or a black hole void. Source inspiration from the elements but that space is filled by what you are naming now as the most protective substance. The outer edge of the cube is made of semi-permeable black tourmaline; you push anything you like out but nothing can come in unless you will it to be so. Hold the tension of this psychic shield.

  3. With your materials close, cast a circle. You might use this method or another that’s in your practice:

    1. Face the North. Call your loving ancestors of the north, past and future, to come closer to your circle and witness you. To the north, to my protective ancestors, to the sacred energies of the Earth, I say welcome.

    2. Face the East. Call your loving ancestors of the east, past and future, to come closer to your circle and witness you. To the east, to my protective ancestors, to the sacred energies of the Air, I say welcome.

    3. Face the South. Call your loving ancestors of the south, past and future, to come closer to your circle and witness you. To the south, to my protective ancestors, to the sacred energies of the Fire, I say welcome.

    4. Face the West. Call your loving ancestors of the west, past and future, to come closer to your circle and witness you. To the west, to my protective ancestors, to the sacred energies of the waters, I say welcome.

  4. Touch the vision of the shield again and be sure to “see” and feel the shield around everything and everyone you are protecting.

  5. On the paper, write down everything you wish to protect: the names, the addresses, etc. Be specific. As you write, name them aloud. For example: “I protect my home! I protect my body! I protect my children! I protect these waters!” etc. Get louder and more forceful. Build the energy. If you feel called, raise the energy by chanting and moving (or drumming, or singing, or dancing). Raise the energy until your circle begins to feel full (usually about 20 minutes for a solitarily cast spell)

  6. Let your chant go quiet. Fold the paper toward you and add it to the jar/bottle along with the other materials that will “distract the negative energy” should any harm come toward them. Return to the vision of the shield. Seal the jar/bottle. Feel the feeling. Stay here for at least five minutes.

  7. Open the circle by offering gratitude to the ancestors and elements from West, to South, to East, to North.

  8. Place your hands on the ground. Breathe from low in the belly. Bury your jar near your front door if you can. A potted plant works if you do not have ground there.

  9. Let it be.
